Spinalonga
The island of Spinalonga (41 km from the hotel) is located in the Gulf of Elounda in north-eastern Crete, next to the town of Plaka. It has has its roots in the period of Venetian occupation, but is mostly known as the Leper Island because that is where lepers from Crete and the rest of Greece were quarantined until 1957.
